Safety Measures
Hi-Bak prioritizes safety above all during product installation. This page aims to provide essential guidance, supplementing formal training and official standards, to help prevent accidents and reduce risks.
If you are unsure about the best practices for ensuring your safety, we encourage you to consult the CNESST website or contact us directly. We are here to support you.

				 Pre-Work Assessment
Pre-Work Assessment Before any on-site intervention, verify the following:
- Presence of electrical or gas lines (overhead or underground).
- Weather conditions : avoid working at heights during strong winds, rain, snow, or ice.
- Work areas at height : roofs, eaves, gutters, etc.
- If you are within 3 m of an electrical line below 125 kV, or less than 5 m for 125–250 kV (up to 12 m for over 550 kV), a formal agreement with the utility or a power shutdown is required before starting work.

				 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Always use the following during installation:
- Cut- and impact-resistant gloves.
- Safety glasses to protect against metal debris.
- Hearing protection when using power tools or cutting blades.
- Hard hats and safety boots according to CNESST standards.

				 Access and Collective Protection
Access and Collective Protection Prioritize the following measures:
- Aerial platforms or scaffolding with guardrails, especially above 3 m, according to CSTC Article 2.9.1 and RSST Article 33.4.
- Ladders compliant with CAN3‑Z11, used only as access (less than 1 h), firmly supported, secured, extending at least 900 mm above the landing, maintaining three points of contact.
- Harness with certified anchor point (≥ 5000 lb), required when working at height without collective protection.

Safe Work Practices

				 Safe Work Practices
Safe Work Practices - Work in pairs : one person stabilizes the ladder or signals potential hazards.
- Never carry metal objects near electrical lines.</span.
- Maintain the three-point contact rule on ladders.
- Stop work in adverse weather, as moisture and wind increase electrical and fall risks.

Specific Procedures: Electricity & Gas Electrical Lines
- Maintain the required minimum distance (3–12 m depending on voltage).
- Before work, complete and submit the “Work Near Lines” form to CNESST and, if required, agree on a procedure with the utility (e.g., Hydro-Québec).
- Train workers on electrical risks and provide proper measurement and protective tools according to CSTC.
Gas
- Locate pipelines before cutting or drilling.
- Use gas detectors and respect marked zones.
